Capturing a Wedding with a Canine Companion at Chelsea Town Hall: A Photographer's Delight

This past autumn, I had the pleasure of photographing an intimate and uniquely heartfelt wedding at the iconic Chelsea Town Hall, where the bride’s beloved dog, Alfie, stole the show. It was a day of light-hearted humor, deep devotion, and an undeniable bond between a bride, her dog, and her husband-to-be, Rob. But make no mistake—Alfie, an adorable pup with boundless charm, was certainly the VIP of the day!

A CEREMONY WITH CHARACTER

Arriving at Chelsea Town Hall in the early afternoon, there was an undeniable autumnal charm in the air. The golden sunlight filtered through the trees lining the King's Road, and the crisp air held the promise of a magical day ahead. Inside, the warmth and elegance of the town hall set the perfect scene. We were greeted by Ivonne, he wonderfully engaging registrar, who coincidentally had the same name as me! Ivonne brought both joy and grace to the ceremony, adding her own sparkle to the occasion.

The soon-to-be bride, Clare, is a woman of many accomplishments. An extraordinary marathon runner, Clare has completed a marathon on every continent—a feat few can claim. 7 marathons, in 7 continents, 7 days. And though she has scaled some incredible distances, it was clear that the strongest bond in her life was to Alfie. The lighthearted dynamic between her and Rob was a joy to capture, especially as she jokingly reminded everyone that Alfie, her loyal canine companion, was her number-one priority. Rob, with his easy smile and sense of humor, took it all in stride, knowing this was simply part of the charm of the woman he loved.

THE STAR OF THE DAY: ALFIE

Alfie made his grand entrance wearing a bowtie that matched Clare’s bouquet. As the guests cooed and giggled, Alfie happily lapped up the attention, fully aware that he was the star of the day. From sitting proudly by Clare's side as they exchanged vows to joining in for portraits, Alfie was a natural. There was a moment when he looked up at Clare with such genuine affection that the entire room seemed to melt.

As a photographer, this was one of those beautiful, authentic moments you dream of capturing. Clare’s radiant smile as she looked down at Alfie mirrored the same joy in her eyes when she looked up at Rob. You could see that Alfie wasn’t just her dog; he was family.

PHOTOGRAPHING PERSONAL MOMENTS AND MARATHON SPIRIT

Before the ceremony, we strolled to nearby gardens for some portraits. Being late, Clare’s marathon-running spirit shone through as she laughed about possibly sprinting down King’s Road with Alfie to celebrate the occasion.

We managed to capture some wonderful, candid shots—Rob laughing as Clare knelt to give Alfie a treat, the three of them strolling hand-in-paw down the path, and Clare looking at her two favorite boys with such joy.

A DAY TO REMEMBER

This wedding was a beautiful reminder of the unique stories we each bring to life’s milestones. Photographing Clare, Rob, and Alfie was not just about capturing a wedding but about immortalizing the bond that makes a family.
